Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America baseball team fell 10-8 in extra inning to the Drew University Rangers on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Ryan Tracy led the Catholic offense with four hits in six at-bats while driving in one RBI and coming across the plate once. Sophomore Christian Jones drove in two runs on two hits and junior Anthony Ferlise registered two RBIs of his own.
Senior Jake Crist got the Cardinals started in the first inning with an RBI-single to center field which scored his classmate Jack Hennessy. Up next, Ferlise drove in fellow senior Danny O'Hagan and Crist before Jones sent a single up the middle to bring in junior Bailey Lewis as Catholic took a 4-1 lead through the first.
The Rangers brought home two in the second and one in the top of the fourth to tie the game but Lewis and Tracy registered RBI-singles in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-4 advantage.
Drew answered with three runs in the fifth to gain its first lead (7-6) of the day. Jones batted in Tracy with a seventh-inning RBI-double to tie things up before the Rangers regained a one-run (8-7) advantage in the eighth.
The offensive battle continued as Lewis came home in the ninth inning to send the Sunday showdown into extra innings.
With no runs across in the 10th inning, the Rangers capitalized on two runs in the 11th to claim the conference series.
No. 14 Catholic, now 15-3, is set to travel to Johns Hopkins on Tuesday, March 27. First pitch against the Blue Jays is slated for 4:30 p.m.
