Box Score

WASHINGTON - With an 11-8 victory on Sunday afternoon, The Catholic University of America baseball team swept the University of Scranton Royals in a three-game Landmark Conference series.

The Cardinals advance their overall record to 21-6 while they lead the league, 9-2 in conference.

Catholic junior Jake Crist started Catholic off with an RBI double in the first inning to score senior Brett Padula. Senior Paul Burmester followed in the third inning with a single through the right side to bring home junior Jack Hennessy.

The Royals notched a run in the top of the fourth but freshman Connor Sullivan answered with an RBI in the bottom of the inning and junior Anthony Ferlise stole home for the Cards to take a 4-1 lead.

Scranton rallied in the fifth, tying the game at four a piece. Crist stepped to the plate in the bottom of the inning to drive in Hennessy before Ferlise hit a two-run double, advancing Catholic to 7-4.

In the seventh inning of the back-and-forth Landmark matchup, the Royals brought four runners across the plate to take an 8-7 lead but the Cardinals would not surrender.

In the bottom of the seventh, senior Nicholas Kuczarski pinch hit with a two-RBI double into center field. Then in the eight Crist scored Hennessy and Lewis brought in freshman Christian Jones to secure the victory.

The Cardinals utilized six pitchers for the victory with sophomore Mason Belcher making the start. Sophomores Collin Brown and Colin Cunningham along with junior Sean Carroll each pitched relief before senior Mark Duffy recorded the win.
