Catholic Edged in Landmark Championship by Juniata

Box Score

WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America field hockey team was edged in overtime of the 2017 Landmark Conference Championship as Juniata scored five minutes into extra time to capture the title.

The No. 11 ranked Cardinals scored in the 16th minute of play as a high pass from senior Kerri Shallow was redirected by sophomore Alexa Guittari for the score.

Catholic held the one-goal advantage into the second half, but four minutes into the second stanza as Juniata's Katie Alexander scored her first goal of the game at 39:30.

The two teams battled the rest of the frame scoreless and went to overtime in the playoffs for the third time four years.

It was Juniata that was able to find the advantage as Anderson corralled a save by senior goalkeeper Sophia Hamilton and was able to force it across the goal line for the win.

Hamilton finished her day with six saves, with all of them coming in the second half.

Catholic outshot Juniata, 15-10, but both teams put eight shots on goal.

The nationally-ranked Cardinals now await the NCAA Selection show.
