WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America field hockey team registered a shutout in its 2017 Landmark Conference Semifinal matchup against Elizabethtown, 3-0, on Wednesday night. The No. 11 nationally-ranked Cardinals will now host the Landmark Championship on Saturday at 2 p.m., versus Juniata.

Catholic had three different goal-scorers and got the gamewinner in the ninth minute as senior Rachel Day fed one in off a penalty corner and found rookie Meghan Shallow who finished the pass for her third goal of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Sophia Hamilton improved her record to 15-2 overall this season as she made six saves for her fifth shutout of the season.

Hamilton also got a strong defensive effort from the Cards in front of her, especially classmate Kelly Cousoulis who made a defensive save in the game. She also helped Catholic limit Elizabethtown to just two penalty corners.

The Cardinals took its one-goal advantage into the half but added to it six minutes into the second stanza as Day made it a multi-point day as she corralled a loose ball in close and shot up and over the keeper's stick for the goal.

Catholic's final strike of the evening came on an impressive pass from junior Hannah Schied who fed one across the goalie's face, left-to-right, and found the stick of sophomore Katie Anderson as she one-timed a rocket into the cage.

The Cards now advance to their seventh Landmark Championship game in the past eight seasons.
