Box Score Selinsgrove, Pa., - The Catholic University of America women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2016 season falling 2-1 in its Landmark Conference opener to Susquehanna University.
The Cardinals outshot the River Hawks 8-2 in the first half but it was Susquehanna that struck first, putting the ball in the net in the 12th minute.
Catholic, the reigning conference champions, battled back equalizing the score just eight minutes later. Senior Lindsay Aleman notched the tying goal off a pass from classmate Alyssa Fiore at the 19:38 mark.
The Cards and Hawks each took for shots in the second half before Susquehanna converted its final shot of the match into the winning goal (84:54). Catholic was unable to get a shot off in the last five minutes, surrendering the match as the clock reached 90-minutes.
Catholic outshot Susquehanna 12-7 throughout the game, and also had an 8-1 advantage on corner kicks. Aleman and junior Andrea Jablonskyj led CUA with three shots each.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 6-1-0 for the year while the River Hawks advance to 6-2-0.
Catholic will remain on the road traveling to St. Mary's College of Maryland for a non-conference game on Wednesday, Sept. 28 to take on the Seahawks at 4 p.m.
