Box Score WASHINGTON – It was a battle of nationally-ranked field hockey teams at Cardinal Stadium on Monday night as The Catholic University of America hosted No. 14 Christopher Newport. The No. 19 Cardinals scored first, but the Captains answered to come away with the win, 3-1.
Catholic got on the board first as leading scorer Rachel Day collected the rebound off the shot from Hannah Schied and buried it low and left for a 1-0 lead just 9:38 into the game.
The Cards led into the second half, holding the Captains scoreless for the first 46:30 of the game.
From there, it was all Christopher Newport as they scored twice in eight minutes to take the lead, getting the gamewinner off a penalty corner, its lone corner of the second half.
CNU outshot Catholic, 14-7, with senior goalkeeper Analisa Scott making five saves.
The Cards continue its three-game homestand this Saturday as they start Landmark Conference play against Susquehanna at 1 p.m.
