Box Score Owings Mills, Md. - The Catholic University of America women's soccer team remains undefeated at 4-0 for the 2016 season after at 2-1 victory over Stevenson University Wednesday night.
The Cardinals controlled the beginning of the game taking seven shots in the first 20 minutes of play. After a series of Stevenson fouls, Catholic sophomore Taylor Pisk took a clean shot from the top of the box, in the 26th minute, for a 1-0 lead.
Four shots and 12 minutes later, The Cardinals notched their second goal of the game when senior Alyssa Fiore took a pass senior Lindsay Aleman and fire the ball into the back of the net. Catholic led 2-0 heading into the halftime intermission.
Stevenson rallied in the second half, taking five shots on goal. The Mustangs avoided a shutout with a goal from Kellen Wittman in the 57th minutes, but could not catch the Cardinal lead thanks to Catholic's sophomore goalkeeper Christina Peyroux. Peyroux made four saves in the second half including two in the final five minutes.
Junior Ally Marcello guarded the Catholic net for the first 45 minutes. Marcello made two saves and recorded her fourth win of the 2016 season. Offensively, Aleman took five shots placing four on target while Pisk took three shots during the match.
The Cards will return to CUA Soccer Field on Saturday, Sept. 17, to take on the Seagulls of Salisbury University at 2:30 p.m. The Seagulls are currently ranked No. 7 in the NSCAA South-Atlantic Regional poll, while the Cardinals sit at No. 9 in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
