Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's soccer team shutout Cabrini College, 8-0, at home on Saturday afternoon.
In heat reaching near 95 degrees in the nation's capital, the Cardinals took an outstanding 50 shots throughout the 90-minute contest. Catholic notched eight goals with seven different goal scorers.
Junior Riley Hawblitzel earned her first career goal, putting Catholic on the board in the 20th minute. Within the next three minutes, junior Lindsay Aleman found the back of the net twice, to put the Cards up 3-0 before halftime. Aleman's first goal was assisted by sophomore Taylor Pisk and the second by sophomore Jillian Sudo.
The Cards opened the second half with a goal from Nia Gomez in the 50th minute after Pisk crossed the ball to the middle of the 18-yard box. Pisk struck next on a solo shot in the 59th minute after dribbling through the defenders on the left side, creating an open shot, lifting the Cards to 5-0.
Junior Kiera Lyons added a sixth goal for Catholic in the 73rd minute and freshman Elizabeth Johnson notched the seventh goal in the 86th minute. Sudo capped off the Cardinal scoring in the 87th minute with a clean shot off a pass from freshman Sarah Brush.
Aleman led the Cardinal offense, taking nine shots. With her two goals, Aleman has now tallied 45 career goals. She surpassed Jenny Aspinwall (44 goals from 2001-04) and now sits number two on the CUA Women's Soccer all-time scoring list, just four goals behind Laura Kaye (49 goals from 2002-05).
The Cardinals, now 3-0, travel to Stevenson University on Wednesday, Sept. 14 to take on the Mustangs at 7 p.m.
