Men's Lacrosse Edged in Double-OT Thriller Against Merchant Marine, 14-13

Box Score

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team's final regular season home game at Cardinal Stadium was a double-overtime thriller against the United States Merchant Marine Academy as the Cards scored with just two seconds left to force extra time. After a scoreless first OT period, it was the Mariners who took the pivotal Landmark matchup, 14-13.

Neither team led by more than two goals in the hour-plus showdown as the lead changed hands fives times with seven ties.

Down by two with less than a minute left, sophomore Bennett Bradley scored his second goal of the game to bring Catholic within one, 13-12, with 50 seconds left. junior Jack Murphy then came up with the game-tying score with just two ticks left, burying the feed from classmate Dylan Neville.

Neither team bent in the first OT, but 32 seconds in the double-overtime, Landmark-leading scorer Pat Coll registered his eighth goal of the game to push USMMA to its third conference win as the Cards fell to 2-3.

Junior Tim Keith led the way for the Cardinals with six points and five goals, including a score with one second left at the end of the first half that tied it at five-all. On the play, Neville launched a perfect midfield pass to a streaking Keith who found the net just before the buzzer. Keith also added four ground balls while putting nine of his 11 shots on goal.

Bradley also had a strong game for Catholic, scoring twice and adding two assists. The Army West Point transfer also picked up six ground balls.

Senior goalkeeper Harrison Holak faced 38 Mariner shots and came up with 10 saves, including one in the first OT period.

The Cardinals will wrap up the regular season at Scranton next Saturday, needing a win to keep their playoff chances alive.
