WASHINGTON - After sweeping Drew University in two games on Saturday, The Catholic University of America baseball team fell 12-6 to the Rangers in game three of the Landmark Conference series.

The Cardinals and Rangers stayed even though the first inning, each putting one run on the board. Catholic's run came from junior Wyatt Schmidt, who ran across the plate on a Ranger's fielding error.

The Rangers broke the game open with a six run third inning. They scored three more unearned runs in the top of the fifth and one in the sixth to advance their lead to 11-1.

Just when it looked over for the Cards, they rallied scoring runs in the next three innings. Their comeback fell short as the Rangers brought one more home in the ninth and the Cards blanked the inning.

Sixth inning runs from Catholic came on a 2-RBI single from sophomore Danny O'Hagan and a RBI single from freshman Ryan Tracy. Schmidt came home again in the top of the seventh on a RBI double from sophomore Jake Crist. Sophomore Brennan Cotter scored the Cards final run of the event when classmate Matt Hsiung hit a single into right field.

The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, April 20 when they host Johns Hopkins at Robert J. Talbot Field at 4 p.m.
