Box Score

WASHINGTON - Tied 6-6, with the Bridgewater College Eagles in the bottom of the 10th inning,  senior Mike Iglesia of The Catholic University of America baseball team, ripped the game-winning hit into center field for a 7-6 victory.

After a back and forth game, Iglesia's hit earn the Cardinals their 12th win of season (12-16), while handing the Eagles their 16th loss (20-16).

Bridgewater College came out quick with two runs in the first inning and Catholic tied the game with a pair in the bottom of the second. With runners on first and second, sophomore Matt Hsiung sent a sacrifice bunt down the first base line, advancing both runners to scoring positions. Senior Andrew Stewart stepped into the batters box next and put a single though the left side to score sophomore Brennan Cotter. Two batters later, junior Wyatt Schmidt hit an RBI-single to bring home junior Paul Burmester

The Eagles answered with two more in the top of the third and took a clear 6-2, with two more in the fifth. However, the Cardinals would not surrender that easily, and put up a four-run fifth inning.

With the bases loaded in the fifth, Hsuing, drove in freshman Bailey Lewis, on his second sacrifice hit of the game. Bridgewater retired Stewart next for the innings third out, but the Cards weren't done. Junior Brett Padula cracked a 3-run homer over the right field wall to match the Eagles six runs.

Both teams retired the first three batters in the sixth inning, and blanked the next three and a half innings before Catholic came out on top.

Senior John Palladino led off the bottom of the 10th with a single through the right side. Schmidt followed with a sacrifice bunt to advance him to second. The Cardinals pull in Iglesia to pinch-hit and he hit a rocket over the Eagles center field, scoring Palladino, for the walk-off victory.

The Cardinals had 14 hits in the midweek win with Cotter and Stewart going 2-for-3. Hsiung recorded three sacrifice hits with one RBI.

Sophomore Sean Carroll recorded his third win of the season on the mound for Catholic afterand inning of relief. Sophomore Jack Hennessy made his fifth started while juniors Joseph Prego, Joseph Salzano and Mark Duffy, and freshman Mason Belcher each took a turn on the rubber for the Cards.
