Catholic Downed by Scranton, 2-1 in Double OT

Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's soccer team finished its regular season with a 2-1, double-overtime, loss to Landmark Conference foe the University of Scranton.

The Royals outshot the Cardinals just 14-13 during the 102-minute contest, with shots tied at 13 apiece heading into the second overtime period. The Royals put 10 of their shots on goal as Catholic's sophomore keeper Christina Peyroux made a career-high eight saves.

After a scoreless first half, Scranton made its way on the scoreboard first with a goal from Erica Licari in the 53rd minute.

As the clock continued to expire Catholic was determined to equalize, capturing the tying score in the 88th minute. Sophomore Taylor Pisk took the ball into the six-yard box, battling through two Royals defenders and pushed the ball inside the left post.

After a scoreless first overtime the Royals took the lone shot of the second overtime to secure an unblemished conference season. Licari ripped the ball from 30-yards out which hit the inside of the crossbar, bouncing to the inside of the net for the golden goal.

Before the starting lineups were read the Cardinals recognized their senior class. Lindsay Aleman, Jennifer Delasco, Tess Dorilio, Alyssa Fiore, Sara Gallagher, Sarah Madden and Juliet Onufrak were honored for their four years of dedication to the Catholic women's soccer program.

With a 4-3 conference record, the Cardinals have secured the No. 3 seed in the Landmark post-season tournament. They will face off against No. 2 Moravian College on Tuesday, Nov 1, at 7 p.m., in Bethlehem Pa.
