Box Score Hackettstown, N.J. - The Catholic University of America women's soccer team remained undefeated after their first road game with a 2-1 victory over Centenary College on Saturday afternoon.
Catholic dominated offensively, outshooting Centenary 43-3 and taking 17 shots on goal during the 90 minutes of play. Junior Lindsay Aleman tied her career high with nine shots. She took nine last season against Washington Adventist, putting four on target and notching the game winning goal for the Cardinals.
The Cyclones took all three of their recorded shots in the first half. They were able to notch an early goal just 12 minutes into the game and held the lead through the halftime intermission.
"It was disappointing to get scored on in the 12th minute, but it was a simple mistake that we knew we could fix and it was very early in the game," said CUA Head Women's Soccer Coach J.P. Sousa. "Nobody panicked and we didn't allow another shot after that."
After the break, in the 55th minutes of play, freshman Taylor Pisk saw the opportunity to tie the game and tipped the ball into the net off a pass form sophomore Nia Gomez. Less than four minutes later the Cardinals were awarded a penalty kick as Aleman sent the ball inside the left post for the game winner.
The Cards move to 2-0 for the year and senior Lexi Halperin earned her second win of the 2015 campaign.
Catholic will continue their season Sunday, September 6, versus No. 15 Misericordia at 2:30 p.m., at Centenary College.
"I know that everyone is excited about tomorrow's game against Misericordia," said Sousa. "We look forward to testing ourselves against a nationally ranked opponent with big-time NCAA tournament experience."
