Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's soccer team out played Elizabethtown for a 2-1 victory on the road in their Landmark Conference opener Saturday afternoon. The win advances the Cardinals to 7-2 for the season while the Blue Jays drop to 4-4-1 overall, 0-1 in the Landmark.
The Cardinals controlled possession of the game for the majority of the first half. Catholic outshot E-town 12-4 in the first 45 minutes but were unable to convert a shot.
With a 0-0 score after the halftime break, the Cards found their way onto the scoreboard in the 55th minute. Junior Lindsay Aleman snuck the ball off the foot of a Blue Jay defender and chipped the ball past the keeper for a 1-0 Catholic lead. Freshman Jillian Sudo notched the CUA insurance goal 13 minutes later when she lobbed the ball into the goal from the top left corner of the 18-yard box.
The Blue Jays completed a penalty kick opportunity in the 82nd minute to cut the Cardinal's lead in half, but it was Catholic on top 2-1 when the clock reached 90 minutes.
Aleman guided the CUA offense taking six shots with five on goal, when senior Kelly Henderson and junior Nia Gomez took two apiece. Senior Lexi Halperin earned her seventh win of the 2015 season and made four saves through the match.
Catholic will host St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m., before returning to conference play on Saturday, Oct. 3rd versus Moravian at 1 p.m., at CUA Soccer Field.
