Box Score

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America field hockey team opened Landmark Conference play at home on Saturday at Cardinal Stadium, but fell to Elizabethtown, 3-2, in overtime.

It was the second consecutive game that went to extra time for the No. 12 Cardinals and unfortunately saw the same score and result.

The Cards took an a 1-0 lead 28 minutes into the first half as Hayley Wright deflected one in from Rachel Day, giving CUA the lead at the break.

Catholic extended its advantage four minutes into the second as Day put one past the Elizabethtown keeper after a shot by Molly Crowley rebounded to her.

The lead did not last long however as the Blue Jays scored twice in three minutes as multiple saves by Cardinal goalkeeper Analisa Scott led to second chances that Elizabethtown was able to take advantage of.

The Blue Jays were able to strike first in OT, scoring off a penalty corner 4:49 into the extra period.

Scott finished with five saves in the match, while Day led the offense with five shots, three on goal and three points.

The Cards begin a two-game road swing this coming Wednesday at Christopher Newport at 7 p.m.
