Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America baseball team travel down the road to Gallaudet University for their second visit of the season and topped the Bison 4-2 in nine innings Wednesday afternoon.
Catholic's Sean Carrol made his first start of the season on the rubber to pitch four innings with one strikeout. Ian Moss stepped to the mound in the fifth inning to earn the win while David Gately pitched the sixth and Josh Martin made an appearance in the seventh. Jack Hennessy made his way to hill for the final 2.1 innings, throwing one strikeout and earning his first save of the season.
The Cardinals earned their first three runs in the top of the third. After Brett Padula and Wyatt Schmidt each successfully stole bases within the inning, the runners stood in scoring position. Stefan Poggioli stepped in the batter's box and sent a 2-RBI single down middle to score both runners before Eric Scamardella hit the ball down the right line to bring home Poggioli.
The Bison rallied, scoring two in the bottom of the fifth, but the Cards notched an insurance run in the top of the eight to go ahead 4-2. With runners on first and third Gately reached the bag on a fielder's choice while Poggioli came across the plate. The Bison soon retired the inning and where unable to score any additional runs before the nine inning show concluded.
The Cards continue non-conference play on Thursday, April 16 when the travel to John Hopkins University for a 3:30 p.m., nine inning match-up.
