WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America baseball team traveled to Chestertown, Md. for a Tuesday afternoon matchup against Washington College and come home with the 4-1 win after nine innings.

After four scoreless innings the Cardinals put themselves on the board in the top of the fifth when Stefan Poggioli sent a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in Anthony Ferlise. The Shoremen answered in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own to tie the score at one.

In the eighth inning, with Poggioli on second and Eric Scamardella on first, Jake Crist was sent to the batter's box to pinch hit. Crist sent an RBI-single to left center to drive in Poggioli for the go-ahead run.

With two runners in scoring positions Poggioli reached first base on a Shoremen fielding error scoring Dan Hinchcliff and advancing Wyatt Schmidt to third base. Scamardella followed with a single down the left baseline to score Schmidt for a 4-1 advantage before the inning ended.
