Box Score Bethlehem, Pa. – Sophomore forward Rachel Day tallied a hat trick on Sunday as The Catholic University of America field hockey team registered a shutout at Moravian, 8-0. The No. 18 Cardinals improve to 6-3 overall and even their Landmark record at 1-1.
The CUA offense was rolling as Catholic totaled 44 shots in the contest, putting 30 on goal. Even more impressive was the Cardinal defense as Moravian was held to just two shots, neither going at the CUA cage.
Day was everywhere for head coach Gia Cillizza, finishing with 11 total shots, putting nine on goal.
Rookie Graceton Griffith scored the game-winning goal 11 minutes into the contest and then assisted on the insurance score five minutes later, finding fellow freshman Lane Adams for the goal. Griffith also added a helper on Catholic's fourth score of the day.
Adams also had a strong day for the Cardinals. The midfielder led the defensive charge for CUA in addition to her score and also added two assists in the second half.
Catholic will look to carry the momentum into a huge midweek match at Cardinal Stadium on Wednesday as CUA hosts No. 3 Salisbury at 6 p.m.
