WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America Men's Soccer team lost their home match to Drew University, 2-1, at Cardinal Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The first 35 minutes of the game favored neither team, as both were unsuccessful at finding the back of the net. However, in the 37
th minute of play, freshman
Corbin Brailsford notched his first goal as a Cardinal, giving Catholic momentum for the rest of the half. Senior
Tyler Zimmerman was responsible for placing the ball in the middle of the box for Brailsford's, who fought off multiple Ranger's defensive men to score big. With the lead in their favor and an excited home crowd behind them, the Cardinals took a 1-0 advantage into the half.
The second half started similarly to the first, very quiet for both teams. Still maintaining the one goal lead, Catholic seemed poised to widen the margin, especially with a near goal off the head of
Brendan Kacani. Despite the Cardinals pushing forward, Drew began to foster momentum of their own.
As the game came to a close, Ranger momentum was in full effect as they notched goals in the 71st and 78th minute to put themselves ahead. Although CUA put up a valiant effort in the final 15 minutes of play, they were unable to covert a goal in the last minutes. The clock read 2-1 in favor of Drew at the 90 minute mark.
Zimmerman led the Cardinal offense with 5 shots, while junior
Zachery Tashjy made nine saves between the posts.
The Cards return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 13, when they take on Haverford College at 3:30 p.m. in Haverford, Pa.
