LEXINGTON, Va. – The 15th-ranked Catholic University field hockey team concluded its season-opening weekend with a single-goal shut out over the Denison University Big Red on the Washington & Lee Field Turf in Lexington, Va., on Sunday.
Senior Cardinal Colleen Harwood scored the game-winning goal of the contest. The Rockville, Md., native quickly penetrated the circle and created several scoring opportunities en route to her goal into the right-side net of the box.
Catholic and Denison remained scoreless for the rest of the half, spending a great deal of time at midfield and combining 11 shots between the two squads.
Following a quiet first half, the second half became a nail-bitter, as the Cards were awarded six corners and the Big Red took two consecutive shots on goal with six minutes remaining in the game.
Sophomore Analisa Scoot and junior Emma Warden split goalkeeper responsibilities, as Scott recorded the win with four saves.
Catholic returns to action on Tuesday, September 9 for contest at Gettysburg.
