No. 17 Salisbury Edges Catholic 5-4 in Extra Innings

WASHINGTON – After tying the ball game 3-3 by the end of regulation play, the Catholic University of America baseball team was out scored 2-1 in the 11th inning falling to No. 17 Salisbury 5-4.

It took four innings before either team scored a run, with the Cards taking a 2-0 lead by Eric Scamardella scoring Paul Burmester and followed by Brett Padula's double to left center field scoring Brendan Breslin.

Salisbury evened the contest with two runs in the bottom of sixth and took the lead with a single run on the bottom of the eighth.

Padula sent the contest into extra innings when he reached home on John Palladino's sacrifice fly to right field.

Catholic took a 4-3 lead in the top of the 11th inning when Padula scored again, this time by Andrew Stewart causing a Salisbury error.

No. 17 SU regained the lead and sealed the 5-4 win with two runs in the bottom of the 11th.

CUA returns to Robert J. Talbot Field on Wednesday, April 9 to host Johns Hopkins at 4:00 p.m.
