Hornets Outlast Cardinals 3-2

Box Score

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America baseball team gave up a two-run lead to the Shenandoah Hornets, eventually falling 3-2 in nine innings on Thursday.

Brendan Breslin put the Cardinals on the board first when he singled and forced a Hornets' error, scoring Marc Hanna for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

SU answered back when Ricky Pardo reached home plate to tie the contest 1-1.

The Cards regained the lead in the bottom of the third on a double up the middle by Nick Clary, sending Stefan Poggioli for the last CUA run of the contest.

After three scoreless innings, Shenandoah scored in the top of the seventh to gridlock the contest once again with a score of 2-2.  The Hornets quickly ended the Cardinals two innings at the plate and took the first lead of the contest in the top of the ninth.

CUA was unable to manufacture any runs in the bottom of the ninth to seize the win or head into extra innings.

Four pitchers took the mound for the Cardinals, with Chris Nee taking the loss after facing three batters and allowing one hit.

Catholic heads to Madison, N.J., on Friday, April 5 for a single contest against the Drew Rangers at 3:30 p.m.
