WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's soccer team took down the University of Scranton 2-1 in an overtime Landmark Conference match at the CUA Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon.

The win brings the Cardinals to 10-1-2 overall and puts them on top of the Landmark Conference standings with a 4-0 league record.  The Royals fall to 6-6-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference.

Catholic and Scranton each took seven shots in regulation. Kirsten Wosleger led the offense with two shots, one of which made its way into the goal. 

On a breakaway in the 36th minute Wosleger brought the ball up the left side of the field, she dribbled up to the top of the box and lofted the ball over the Royals goalkeeper's head into the back of the net. The goal sent the Cardinals into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.

The Catholic defense tried to hold the lead in the second half.

In the 73rd minute of play, Royals' forward Ellen Walker crossed the ball in front of the goal to Gianna Vitolo, who tied the contest on a header.

With a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation the Cardinals and Royals headed into overtime.

Catholic came out determined in the extra period and earned a corner kick at the 92nd minute of play.  Ava Brown served the ball into the penalty box and Alexa Povelaitis headed the ball past the goalkeeper for a 2-1 win.

Lexi Halperin made four saves in the conference win.

The Catholic women's soccer team takes on Goucher College in Towson, Md., for a Landmark Conference game Wednesday October, 22 at 7 p.m.
