Box Score WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America field hockey team improved its overall record and maintained the first place Landmark Conference standing with a 3-0 victory over the Drew Rangers on Saturday.
The rainy afternoon win improved the Cardinals to 10-1 overall (3-0 LC), while the Rangers fall to 1-10 and 0-3 in the conference.
Katie Bertrand recorded her first goal of the season on a last second penalty corner in the first quarter. Bertrand tipped the ball in behind the Rangers' goalie. Morgan Druce, who was credited with assist, took the initial shot that Bertrand recovered.
CUA ended the half with a 1-0 lead, the Washington, D.C., host took 11 shots and six penalty corners in the opening 35 minutes.
Colleen Harwood scored an unassisted goal at the 61st minute, as she pulled the Ranger goalie out of the box and maneuvered around her defender to register her third goal of the year.
Maura Campbell, who leads the Cardinals in points (16), goals (6) and shots (32), secured another win when she overpowered the Rangers goalkeeper on a penalty stroke at the 65th minute.
CUA controlled all aspects of defense with 19 shots (12 on goal) to Drew's five shots and two on goal.
Analisa tallied her 10th win this season thanks to her 70 minutes in the cage with one save.
Despite the loss, Sarah Stewart finished the day with six saves for Drew.
The Cardinals will continue Landmark Conference play at Cardinal Stadium, when they host the Goucher Gophers on Wednesday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m.
