Box Score WASHINGTON – Keira McGovern recorder her first goal of the season, while Analisa Scott anchored the defense, as the No. 14 Catholic University field hockey team held the No. 15 Christopher Newport Captains to a 1-0 loss on Wednesday night at Cardinal Stadium.
On a corner from
Ellen Thorburn, McGovern scored an assisted goal from Megan Druce at the 26
th minute mark to take a 1-0 lead.
By the end of the first 35 minutes, CUA outshot CNU 14-to-1 along with being award seven corners.
Christopher Newport gained composure in the second half of play, winning several midfield battles and maintaining more possession time. Even taking three shots and three corners, as the Cardinals went for seven shots and three corners.
Scott recorded two saves for her second shutout in-goal win. CNU's Savannah Cummings also boasted an impressive finish with 10 saves and one goal against.
With the win, CUA improves to 7-1, while CNU falls to 6-3.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, October 4 for a 5:30 battle with the Greyhounds of Moravian for the second Landmark matchup of the season.
