WASHINGTON – Cardinal Stadium proves to be the best location for the Catholic University field hockey team, as the Cardinals secured their second shutout win with a 5-0 victory over the Bullets of Gettysburg College on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Junior Kim Hermann, who finished the contest with two goals, opened the competition with a goal seven minutes and 13 seconds into the game off an assist by fellow classmate Colleen Harwood.  Sophomore Taylor Elliott notched the second goal on an assist by freshman Morgan Druce, who completed the third contest of the season with two assists.

By the halftime intermission, CUA held Gettysburg to a 2-0 deficit.

The Cards returned to the turf following an extended halftime discussion to score three additional goals and secure the win.

At the 27:43 mark, sophomore Tarah Portland tallied her first goal of the season on a cross pass from junior Maura Campbell just a few feet away from the goal.

Harwood participated in the scoring action with an unassisted goal with 21:55 on the clock.  Hermann rounded the CUA scoring at the 11:53 mark, with a goal assisted by Druce.

Senior Megan Comunale maintained the goal for the entire 70 minutes of action and finished the contest with six saves.

Gettysburg's defense was not to be ignored, as the Bullets stopped 21 of the Cardinals 26 shot attempts and tallied 11 GC saves.

CUA's shutout win over Gettysburg marked the fourth consecutive shutout victory, while giving the Bullets their first loss of the season.

The mighty red and black return to road action on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Rowan in Glassboro, N.J., at 6:00 p.m.
