Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa. – Leading Lebanon Valley 6-2 after 7
innings, CUA surrendered five runs in the 8th and ultimately fell
to the Dutchmen 7-6 on Sunday afternoon. Pat DeToro collected three
hits for the Cardinals, with Mark Kalokitis and Nick Clary adding
two apiece.
Clary's RBI single back up the middle in the first gave CUA
an early 1-0 lead, before Lebanon Valley tied the score with a run
in the 2nd.
The Cards plated two in the top of the 3rd to go back in front,
with Chris McCloud drilling a two-run homer to left.
CUA extended to a 6-1 lead with three more runs in the 5th,
beginning with an infield single by Clary. McCloud then reached on
a fielder's choice, with Clary moving all the way over to
third on an error on the play.
One batter later, Stefan Poggioli put down a bunt and another
Dutchmen error allowed Clary and McCloud to score, and Poggioli to
move over to third.
Poggioli then came home on a wild pitch, upping CUA's lead
to five.
A Derek Brousseau double in the 5th brought in Lebanon
Valley's second run, trimming the Cards advantage to
four.
Tim Flier led off with a triple in the 8th for the Dutchmen, and
came home with one out on a CUA error.
Andrew DeCew brought in two more runs with a two-out double, and
Brousseau's two-run single drove in the tying and
game-winning runs.
With two outs in the 9th, McCloud walked and was pinch run for
with Nick Scali. Scali then stole second base, but John Palladino
went down swinging, ending the game.
Colin Kelly got the start on the hill for CUA and did not allow
any earned runs in three innings of work, before giving way to
Kevin Farley, who allowed only one earned run in three innings.
Dustin Hanley suffered the loss, allowing one earned run and
striking out one in two-thirds of an inning.
Lee Webber was the winning pitcher, striking out five and allowing
only one hit in four innings.
CUA remains on the road for its next contest, traveling to
Shenandoah on Wednesday evening. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
