No. 11 CUA spreads the scoring around in 82-65 win over Crusaders

Box Score

WASHINGTON – All five starters reached double figures and No. 11 CUA (14-2, 4-1) cruised to an 82-65 win over Susquehanna (5-11, 1-4) on Wednesday evening inside the DuFour Center.  The Cardinals shot 52.6 percent from the floor, including 6 of 12 from 3-point range, and Chris Kearney and Steve Limberiou netted 19 points apiece to share top honors.

CUA led by eight with 12 minutes to play before halftime following a jumper by Kearney, and after Bryson Fonville's basket two minutes later, the lead was up to 11.

Limberiou pushed the lead to 13 with his basket at the 8:38 mark and soon after, he added two free throws to extend to a 15-point advantage.

Susquehanna managed to cut into the lead with three straight 3-pointers late in the half, pulling to within 31-23 on Josh Miller's trifecta at the 4:07 mark, but Limberiou splashed a jumper down the other end to make it a 10-point spread.

An old-fashioned three-point play by Fonville with 1:57 on the clock gave CUA a 38-27 lead, and the Cardinals eventually took a 10-point lead into the locker room.

Seven straight points by CUA right out of the gate upped the lead to 48-31 with 17:06 remaining, and after Nate Koenig buried a three with 14:39 on the clock, the Cards were on top by 20.

Another string of 3-pointers by the Crusaders brought the visitors to within 13 with 12:01 remaining, but CUA scored the next six points to go in front by 19 with 10:04 to play.

Shawn Holmes' free throw with 7:50 remaining gave CUA a 24-point lead, its largest of the night.

Brandon Hedley's 3-pointer at the 2:52 mark brought Susquehanna to within 15, but CUA scored seven of the next nine to go in front by 20 and all but end this one.

Along with Kearney and Limberiou, Holmes (14), Koenig (13) and Fonville (13) also finished in double figures, while Holmes handed out seven of CUA's 22 assists.  Holmes also led the way with seven rebounds.

The Cardinals sank 80 percent at the free throw line (16-20) and committed only 10 turnovers.

Hedley finished with 16 points for the Crusaders, who hit 11 3-pointers on the night.

No. 11 CUA is back in action on Saturday evening when the Cardinals host Scranton inside the DuFour Center.  Start time is set for 6 p.m. and all of the action will be shown live on cuacardinals.com.
