CUA earns a Saturday split vs. Drew in New Jersey

MADISON, N.J. – After dropping game one to Drew 9-8 in eight innings on Saturday, CUA quickly regrouped to earn a 9-0 win in game two to earn a 2-1 series win over the Rangers.  Following Saturday's action, the Cardinals are 13-7 overall and 2-4 in the Landmark Conference.

In game number-one, CUA jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings.  The Cardinals scored once in the first when Marc Hanna doubled home Tommy Little, and again in the second when Dan Hinchcliff's sac fly brought in Dan Sullivan.

Four more Cardinals came across in the third and another single run crossed in the fourth.

Drew cut it to a two-run game in the fifth with a five-run frame, but CUA upped its lead to three with another single run in the sixth.  Tim Mierzwa led things off with a double and eventually came home on a wild pitch.

The Rangers refused to go away though, and tied things at eight with three runs in the sixth.  A Cardinals error allowed all three Drew runs to come across and after both teams were unable to score in the seventh, the game headed for extras.

CUA went down in order in the eighth and the Rangers capitalized, scoring the game-winning run on a Steven DeBonis single to left field that plated Michael Scarzafava.

Thomas Travaglia suffered the loss for CUA after allowing four runs on three hits in 3.0 innings.  Robin Mowatt got the start and went 4.2 innings, allowing five runs on six hits during that time.

Pat Rock earned the Drew win after pitching two scoreless innings.

CUA exacted some revenge in game two, shutting out the Rangers 9-0.

The Cardinals again started fast, scoring once in the first and second and then erupting for four runs in the third.  Little got things going in that fourth inning with a lead off single and then stole second. With one out, Little moved up to third with another steal.

Hanna then tripled Little in to make it 3-0, and after Hanna came across on a wild pitch, it was 4-0 Cardinals.  Later, a Brendan Breslin double plated Matt Grieb and Colin McCarthy's sac fly brought in Dave Grear.

CUA tacked on three more runs in the fifth, beginning with back-to-back singles by Hanna and Grieb.  Grear's double then brought home both Cardinals, and Grear came across on McCarthy's single.

Adam Schroth went 6.0 innings to earn the win for CUA, allowing only one hit during that time, before turning things over to Justin D'Alessandro for the final three outs.

Alex Taylor took the game two loss for Drew, after allowing nine runs on nine hits in 4.0 innings.

On Wednesday, CUA hosts Shenandoah at 3:30 p.m. at Talbot Field.
