CUA breezes past Goucher 10-0 to remain unbeaten in the Landmark

TOWSON, Md. – For the second straight game, the CUA offense had its game in gear, as the Cardinals stormed past Goucher 10-0 on Wednesday afternoon.  CUA has now scored 15 goals in its last two games, and improves to 3-0 in the Landmark Conference.  Taylor Elliott led the way offensively with three scores.

CUA had little trouble with the Gophers, outshooting their counterparts by an incredible 45-1 margin, including 27-0 in the first half, when the Cardinals opened up an 8-0 lead.

Tarah Portland got things rolling with a goal at the 5:38 mark when she scooped a shot right over the Goucher goalkeeper's head to make it 1-0.

One minute later, Maura Campbell fed Hayley Wright for a goal and a 2-0 CUA lead.

Elliott netted her first score of the day at the 8:53 mark when she put home a rebound to up the CUA lead to three.

Portland struck again at the 10:59 mark when Wright fed her for another CUA goal and a 4-0 lead.

The Cardinals showed no signs of stopping as Elliott scored again at the 20:53 mark to up the lead to five.  Wright assisted on the score for CUA.

Less than two minutes later, Elliott scored her third and final goal to make it 6-0 when she knocked in a shot from the far side.

The scoring barrage continued with goals by Wright and Kiera McGovern to send the Cardinals into intermission with a commanding 8-0 advantage.

Five minutes into the second half, Ellie Banholzer redirected a shot into the back of the cage to make it 9-0 Cardinals.  Ellen Thorburn and Katie Bertrand were credited with assists on the play.

With less than 12 minutes to play, Megan Fiske got into the act for CUA, scoring her first collegiate goal to set the final margin at 10.

Megan Comunale got the start in goal for CUA and played the entire first half, before giving way to freshman Emma Warden for the final 35 minutes.

Goucher goalkeeper Emily Gill did all she could to try and keep the Gophers in it, sending back 17 shots on the afternoon.

Wednesday's win marked the second straight year in which CUA defeated Goucher by a 10-0 score.

CUA is now off until Sunday when the Cardinals welcome McDaniel to Cardinal Stadium.  Start time is set for 2 p.m.
