Lanzas enters his eighth season at Catholic in 2023 working with the goalies.
In 2021 and 2022, he has coached Cardinal standout Nic Pezone to Landmark Conference second team honors. Pezone, under Lanzas' leadership, has amassed a career record of 25-10. He possesses a career save percentage of 55.1 and a career goals-against-average of 9.93. En route to his team's Landmark Conference championship in 2022, Pezone only allowed five goals in the conference semifinal and only eight in the championship before making 13 saves against No. 5 St. John Fisher in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Lanzas joined the coacing staff in the fall of 2015 and has helped the Cardinals win back-to-back Landmark Conference championships and advance to the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship in 2015 and 2016. Catholic also advanced to the conference title game in 2017 while winning a school-record 14 games. That year, the Cards received votes in the USILA Coaches Poll for eight weeks.
In 2016, Lanzas worked with senior Harrison Holak who earned All-Landmark Conference First Team honors after leading the league with saves (256) and save percentage (60.1). Holak also holds the program's career records for saves (680) and save percentage (60.6).
In 2018, sophomore Alex Mulyk ranked fourth in the Landmark Conference with 121 saves while Mulyk and senior Jason Schmidt led the league with 180 saves in 2017. Catholic also ranked second in goals against average (7.92) and save percentage (57.1).
Prior to Catholic, Lanzas spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at nearby Marymount University in the highly competitive Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) where he served as the goalkeepers coach and worked with the defense and man down unit. The Saints advanced to the CAC quarterfinals in 2012 and the ECAC South semifinals in 2014.
While in Arlington, Lanzas worked with Alex Hammer, Ross Fernandez and Derek Digiovanni. Hammer holds the program record for career saves (776) while ranking fourth in goals against average (9.60) while Fernandez is fifth in saves (549) and GAA (10.90). Digiovanni is seventh in saves (445) and eighth in GAA (11.70).
Lanzas has also coached various club teams at the youth and high school levels.
A 2007 graduate of SUNY Cortland with a degree in business economics, Lanzas was a dual-sport athlete for the Red Dragons in men's lacrosse and wrestling. In lacrosse, he was a part of two SUNYAC championships and reached the NCAA quarterfinals (2005) and national championship (2007). In wrestling, he was nationally-ranked and won the ECWC championship in 2007. He was also a member of the college orchestra.
Lanzas was a two-year starting goalie and team captain at Howard Community College before transfering to Cortland. A local product, he attended James Madison High School in Vienna, Va., lettering in lacrosse, football and wrestling.
Lanzas currently works for Fairfax County government and resides in Arlington, Va.
