Tobia begins his second year on the Catholic staff in 2023, working with inside receivers, a slight change from 2022 when he focused primarily on tight ends. He joined the Cardinals with coaching experience at various levels of football.
Tobia began his coaching career in 2016 at Newton high school, where he acted the varsity offensive line coach and the offensive coordinator for the JV team.
After one season at Newton, he took a graduate position at Vanderbilt. During his time at the SEC school, he worked as a video assistant coach, assisting the coaching staff in video production and editing for practice and film sessions. He also assisted in practice preparation and clerical work.
Tobia then took a job as an assistant coach at Erie Community College. He began working primarily as a video assistant but worked his way up and acquired more responsibility quickly. He worked as a tight ends coach while also working with the offensive line, and assisted in play calling, game planning, recruiting and academic mentoring. Tobia also contributed to position meetings and staff meeting, and had input on roster and depth chart decisions.
He began his education at Erie CC in 2009 and earned his Associates of Arts degree in 2011. He then attended Canisius College, earning his Bachelors of Science in Health & Physical Education with a minor in sports studies in 2014. Tobia utilized the graduate position to earn his a masters degree from the prestigious Vanderbilt in 2018, where he graduated with a Masters of Education in Special Education with a specialty in High Incidence Disabilities.
He returned to Newton high school in 2020 as a special education teacher and rejoined the football program in a similar role as during his first stint there. Tobia boasts four years of classroom teaching experience and is certified to teach multiple subjects.
Tobia is originally from Buffalo, N.Y. and resides in Northern Virginia with his wife, Amanda.
