Smith joins the Catholic staff for his first season in 2023. He will utilize his near-decade of coaching experience to focus on the Cardinal defensive backs.
Smith spent the last three years in the Atlanta area, most recently spending two years at KIPP Atlanta Collegiate. There he focused on the offensive side of the ball, acting the team's quarterbacks coach while also overseeing the passing game as co-offensive coordinator.
In 2020, he spent one season at Lakeside High School where he coached specialists on both sides of the ball; running backs and defensive backs. That season the defense caused 13 turnovers (seven interceptions and six forced fumbles), returning one for a touchdown.
Prior to Lakeside, Smith spent three seasons on the staff at Ben L. Smith High School in Greensboro, N.C. There, he coached defensive backs and outside linebackers while also focusing on running backs. In all three seasons, the defense finished in the top 10 in the state in takeaways, boasting 11 in 2017 and 13 in 2018. The defense cashed in with five total defensive touchdowns over the three seasons.
Smith began his coaching career at Winston Salem State University, where he served as a graduate assistant coach for two years.
Smith graduated in 2013 from Wagner College with a degree in Computer Science. He then earned a master degree in the same field from Winston Salem State in 2016.
