WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic women's tennis team faced off against Frostburg State in their home opener on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals fell in the match to the Bobcats, 7-0.
Annie Nemoy and
Carmen Valentino were on court one, securing Catholic's first win of the game against Frostburg's number one pair, and marking Valentino's first career win. Despite their 6-0 victory, Frostburg took an early advantage, winning on courts two and three.
Patricia Castejon of Frostburg took the Bobcats' second point on court two, where Valentino fell 6-1, 6-1.
Ella Knox battled against Debra Gil on court three, but was defeated 6-2, 6-1, giving Frostburg a third point.
Meanwhile on court one,
Annie Nemoy and Ximena Ku continued to go toe-to-toe. Nemoy stayed close to Ku in set one, dropping the set 6-4. Nemoy took the first game in the second set, but ultimately fell in set two, 6-4. Ku's win gave the Bobcats' their fourth point to secure the match win.
Samantha D'Addezio was in the six spot, keeping her Frostburg opponent on her toes. D'Addezio ultimately fell in the match, 6-2, 6-3. The Bobcats also secured wins on courts four and five to take the win, 7-0.
Up next, Catholic will host St. Mary's and Batten on Saturday, September 19. The first match is set to begin at 9 a.m. at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
