Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic women's tennis team matched up against St. Mary's and Batten on Saturday at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts. The Cardinals clinched the win against the Seahawks 4-3, but fell against the Marlins 3-4.

Match One: Catholic 4, St. Mary's 3

Ava Kalolustian and Sam D'Addezio won in the second doubles spot against Sarah Levit and Zoe Wilson, taking them down 6-1. The Seahawks locked in wins on courts one and three.

In singles, Carmen Valentino took the win against Katherine Yao in court two, marking the first singles win of her career. She defeated Yao 6-4 in set one, but set two proved to be a harder battle as Valentino and Yao went toe-to-toe on the court. Valentino ultimately pulled out the 6-3 victory to give Catholic their first point and even the score at one.

Elaina Nesbitt and Kaloustian also earned straight set victories on courts four and five, respectively. Nesbitt earned her first collegiate win over Addyson Harden, taking her down 6-0, 6-3 while Kaloustian earned her 25th career win as she defeated Zoe Wilson 6-2, 6-3 to give the Cardinals their second and third points.

It all came down to court six where Marcela Pena matched up against Stella Manns. Pena secured the win in set one, 7-5, but Manns fought back, taking Pena down in the second, 6-4. The competition was fierce in the third, but Pena pulled out the win, defeating Manns 1-0 (10-5).

Match Two: Catholic 3, Batten 4

Catholic took an early lead as they secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. In the one spot, Annie Nemoy and Carmen Valentino defeated their Batten opponents in a shutout victory, 6-0. In the three slot, Cristina Moreira and Elaina Nesbitt had a battle against their Batten pair, but defeated them 6-3.

The matches were tough across all six singles courts, half of them reaching tiebreaks. On court one, Nemoy faced off against Meena Lennon, dropping the first set 4-6. She clawed her way back in set two, earning the win 6-2 to force a third set. The two fought to the finish, when Nemoy pulled out the victory 1-0 (11-9).

Valentino earned a victory on court two in straight sets, taking down Anouk Bluemm 6-1 in the first, and 6-2 in the second, giving Catholic their third point of the match.

Ella Knox and Moreira duked it out against their Marlin opponents on courts three and five, respectively, both nearly forcing a third set. Knox fell in set two 7-6 (10-8) while Moreira fell 7-6 (8-6).

Batten was able to pull out wins across four singles courts to secure the match victory, 4-3.

Up next, the Cardinals will host Elizabethtown for their first Landmark Conference match of the season. The match will take place on Sunday, September 20 at 11 a.m.
