Men’s Tennis Takes Down Frostburg in Home Opener

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic men's tennis team hosted Frostburg State on Sunday afternoon for their first match of the 2026-27 season. The Cardinals took down the Bobcats in a close match, 4-3.

Catholic took an early lead with a win on the doubles courts one and three. Ian Arenas and Lorenzo Neri had a close contest in the one spot, but earned the win 6-4. Luke Hynes and Francis DeLucia won in similar fashion on court three, taking down their Bobcat opponents, 6-4. Hynes and Delucia earned their first career win, while Neri earned his 50th career win.

Flynn Hollinger was first to take down his opponent on court two. Hollinger faced off against Frostburg's Alejandro Flores, defeating him 6-1 in set one. Flores tried to fight back, but Hollinger took set two, 6-2 to give the Cardinals their second point.

Ian Arenas also found success on court three, taking the first set against Frostburg's Mika Sheth, 6-4. He had a strong second set, defeating his opponent 6-2 to give Catholic their third point.

Frostburg fought back, adding two points wins from Sergi Rodriguez on court five, Luka Ulzelac on court one and Arthur Happel on court six.

DeLucia was the last to finish on court four, battling back from a first set loss. Gabriel Carrillo took set one 6-4, but DeLucia found his groove, winning set two 7-5 to force a third set. DeLucia was down 5-8 in the third set tiebreak, but was able to recover and win 1-0 (11-9). 

Up next, the Cardinals will host two matches against St. Mary's and Batten Saturday, September 19. The first match against St. Mary's is set to begin at 9 a.m. at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
