WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic women's lacrosse team hosted Juniata on Wednesday afternoon for the final regular season game of their 2026 campaign.
Izzy Fiore fueled the Cardinals, scoring six goals as they took down the Eagles, 18-6.
Catholic quickly gained a lead against Juniata, starting with a goal from
Ellie Verrill to put them on the board.
Henley Bredemann followed, scoring off a feed from Fiore. Fiore then notched her first goal, assisted by
Tori Wilsey, giving the Cardinals a three goal advantage early in the first period.
Juniata fought back, scoring three straight goals of their own to even the score. The first came from Elayna Stubbe eight minutes into the opening quarter, followed by Skyler Stevens and Mackenzi Nafziger who added the next two.Â
The Cardinals were determined to regain their lead, adding three more goals to close out the quarter. Fiore took back the lead with her second goal of the game, followed by Verrill's second, then Bredemann's second. Catholic led 6-3 heading into quarter two.
Fiore opened the second quarter with her hat-trick goal, scoring unassisted to keep growing the Cardinals' lead. Catholic scored seven unanswered goals in the second, starting with Fiore's goal. A few minutes later, Bredemann secured her ninth hat trick of the season as she capitalized on a man-up opportunity.
Peyton Wozniak netted her first of the game as the Cardinals extended their lead to six.Â
With less than five minutes in the half, Verrill secured her hat trick,
Maggie Traynor scored her first of the game, and Fiore added two more goals to her tally. Fiore capped the scoring, finding the back of the net with one second remaining to give the Cardinals a 13-3 lead as they entered the intermission.
Juniata began the scoring in the third quarter with another goal from Stevens. Catholic added two more goals in the quarter, first from Fiore, followed by one fromÂ
Reagan Quinn, her third of the season. The Cardinals led 15-4 heading into the final quarter.
Lindsay Sawyer scored back-to-back goals to start the fourth quarter, both during man-up situations. Wozniak recorded the assist for the first, while
Annie Galarza had the feed on the second. Traynor concluded the scoring for Catholic with her second of the day, assisted by
Brigid Brown. The Eagles netted two goals in the fourth, but the Cardinals maintained the advantage, securing the 18-6 win.
Fiore tied her career-high of eight points against the Eagles, recording six goals and two assists. She previously notched eight points during her junior season in a game against Moravian, where she scored seven goals and logged an assist. She is currently tied alongside teammate Bredemann with 54 points this season, and is the category leader in assists with 23.
Bredemann had four points in the meeting, while Verrill, Traynor, Sawyer and Wozniak each had three. Bredemann remains atop the leaderboard in goals this season with 38, followed by Sawyer with 33, then Fiore with 31.
Maddie McDevitt led the squad with eight draw controls, whileÂ
Ariana Bransfield with three. Defensively, Bredemann and Callano had two caused turnovers apiece, Callano leading with three ground balls.
Olivia Koch got the win in goal, recording seven saves.
Alexandra Ragano saw game action in goal, logging one save against the Eagles.
With this win, Catholic is now 9-0 in series history over the Eagles. They close out regular season play with an overall record of 10-7 and a Landmark record of 8-1.
Catholic also secures their position as the second seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament. They will host the winner of First Round Game #1 that features the third and sixth seeds. The Semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, April 29 at 7 p.m. on Carlini Field.
