GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Catholic women's lacrosse team played their second road game of the weekend against Gettysburg on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals battled hard, but ultimately fell 16-5, to the Bullets.
Henley Bredemann led the charge for the Cardinals, scoring all three of their first-half goals. She opened the scoring for both teams in the first quarter after a defensive battle early on.
Izzy Fiore logged the assist for Bredemann's goal.
Gettysburg's Riley d'Entremont and Bredemann went back and forth in the first quarter. D'Entremont answered Bredemann's opening goal before Bredemann notched her second, this time off a feed from
Annie Galarza. D'Entremont then closed the quarter with another goal to even the score at two.Â
The Bullets continued to capitalize on man-up opportunities, with both of d'Entremont's goals coming with the advantage. In the second quarter, Gettysburg scored five of their seven goals on player-up situations. Bredemann added another for Catholic, assisted by
Peyton Wozniak, but the Bullets led 9-3 heading into the break.
Looking to mount a comeback in the second half, Catholic opened the third quarter with a goal from
Ellie Verrill, assisted by Fiore, her second assist of the game. Gettysburg responded minutes later to maintain their lead, with Julia Daly scoring the Bullets' 10th goal. Fiore added a goal of her own as Catholic tried to stay within reach, but the Cardinals trailed 11-5 as they went into the final quarter.
Despite their best efforts, Gettysburg held Catholic scoreless in the fourth quarter, while they extended their lead. The Cardinals ultimately fell in the meeting. 16-5.
Bredemann led the squad with three goals, marking her eighth game this season with three or more. She remains atop the leaderboard with 35 goals this season. Fiore also had three points with a goal and two assists.Â
Defensively,
Grace Button led with two caused turnovers.
Tori Wilsey recorded four draw controls, while
Clare Martin had four ground balls.
Olivia Koch and
Alexandra Ragano both saw action in goal. Koch took the loss, but recorded five saves while Ragano added one save..
Up next, Catholic will conclude regular season play against Juniata on Wednesday, April 22. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Carlini Field.
