WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic women's tennis team faced off against Drew on Saturday afternoon for another Landmark match. The Cardinals took down the Rangers 5-2, to remain unbeaten in conference play.
In doubles, Catholic secured the point, with wins on courts one and three.
Annie Nemoy and
Shloka Tambat shutout their opponents in the one spot, winning 6-0 to give the Cardinals the advantage.
Ava Niggemeier and
Mairead O'Hara then locked in the doubles point with a win in the three spot, taking down the Rangers 6-2.
In singles, Tambat captured Catholic's second point with a straight set victory on court one. She matched up against Riley Roesel, winning 6-2, 6-1. Nemoy won in similar fashion in three singles, defeating Natalia Zamora 6-3, 6-4.
O'Hara captured the Cardinals' fourth point in the four spot, taking down Madison Williams 6-2, 6-1 and locking in the victory.
Catholic added another point on court six, where Niggemeier took down N. Melendez Sanchez in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4.
Meaghan Laniewski battled for a victory on court five against Danielle Pettoni. She fell in set one, 4-6, but forced a third set with a 6-3 win in set two. Laniewski and Pettoni fought hard in a tie break, but it was Pettoni who pulled out the win, 1-0 (17-15).
With this 5-2 victory, Catholic improves their record to 12-8 overall and 7-0 in Landmark play. Up next, the Cardinals will host Moravian for another Landmark meeting. The match is set for Friday, April 24 at 2 p.m. on the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
