WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Catholic women's lacrosse team traveled to Lycoming for their final road match of Landmark regular season play.
Annie Galarza,
Izzy Fiore, and
Lindsay Sawyer each scored four goals to lead the Cardinals to a 22-4 victory over the Warriors.
Sawyer quickly picked up a hat trick in the first quarter with three straight goals. The first came within two minutes of play as Sawyer scored off a feed from
Henley Bredemann to put the Cardinals on the board.
Following Sawyer's three-goal spree,
Maggie Traynor picked up her first of the game, which was assisted by Sawyer. Bredemann and Fiore followed with goals of their own, before a goal from Lycoming's Riley Block broke up the Catholic run.Â
Fiore added two more in the quarter to secure her hat trick and contribute to Catholic's lead.
Ellie Verrill and
Maddie Rinker capped the scoring for the Cardinals with their first of the game, but Block netted her third in favor of the Warriors as time ran out in the first period.
Catholic put up a strong defense in the second quarter, holding Lycoming off while growing their lead.
Reagan Quinn opened the scoring with her second goal of the season, followed by two from Galarza to give the Cardinals a 10-goal lead over the Warriors. Freshmen
Katie Raymond and
Olivia Eikenberg both contributed goals in the quarter, Raymond's fifth of the season and Eikenberg's sixth.
Galarza added two more in the quarter, totaling four in the second quarter alone. Fiore notched her fourth with just 20 seconds left in the half to give Catholic an 18-3 lead heading into the break. In the first thirty minutes of game action, Galarza and Fiore had picked up four goals, while Eikenberg had logged four assists.Â
Both teams put up a strong defensive front after the break. The Warriors held the Cardinals to just two goals in the third, while Catholic held them scoreless.
Tori Wilsey found the back of the net quickly in the period, scoring off a feed from
Peyton Wozniak. Carly Mathieu also added a goal, the third of her debut season.
In the fourth, Sawyer capitalized on a man-up opportunity, scoring her fourth goal of the game to bring her to a total of six points on the day. Julia Dammes added one for the Warriors, but with less than a minute on the clock,
Madeline Kennedy answered, scoring her first career goal. Catholic captured the victory, defeating Lycoming 22-4.
Sawyer and Galarza had six points in the meeting, each with four points and two assists. Fiore and Eikenberg followed with five points, Fiore with four goals and an assist while Eikenberg logged four assists and a goal. Traynor had three points, her seventh game this season with three or more points. 13 different Cardinals scored against the Warriors, including four freshmen.
Defensively,
Clare Martin had a standout day, scooping up four ground balls while logging a turnover. In goal,
Alexandra Ragano earned the win while logging four saves.
Olivia Koch and
Audrey Bassolino also saw game action, with Koch recording two saves.
With this win, Catholic improves their record to 9-6 overall, and 7-1 in Landmark play. Up next, Catholic will head to Gettysburg for a non-conference game against the Bullets. The game will take place on Sunday, April 19Â
