WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic men's tennis team kept their Landmark unbeaten streak alive on Saturday with a win over Drew. The Cardinals took down the Rangers 5-2, securing their seventh conference win this season.
The Cardinals swept in doubles, starting with a win on court two from
Paulo Emanuelli and
Diego Romo. They took down their Ranger competitors, 6-4.
Jake Hershey and
Flynn Hollinger secured the doubles point in similar fashion, winning 6-4 in the one spot. On court three,
Leyton Ramos-Platt and
Lorenzo Neri battled against Drew, defeating them in a tie break, 7-6 (7-2).
In singles, Romo faced off against Nicolas Mobayed in the three spot where he secured the second point for the Cardinals. After winning set one 6-2, Mobayed took set two, 6-4, to force a third set. Romo pulled out the win in the third set, 6-0.
Hollinger secured the third point for Catholic, winning by opponent retirement.
Lorenzo Neri also secured a win in the one spot, defeating Jesse Faro in a third set tiebreak. After falling set one, 2-6, Neri battled back to force a third set. He was trailing 3-5 in set two before winning six consecutive games to lock in the win, 7-5. In set three, Neri and Faro fought for the victory, but Neri emerged victorious in the tiebreak, 7-6 (7-5).
Stefano Gasasira captured the final point on court six, defeating Devan Sutaria in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. The Cardinals ultimately took down the Rangers, 5-2.
With this win, Catholic improves their record to 13-6 overall and 7-0 in Landmark play. Up next, Catholic will host Moravian for another Landmark meeting. The match is set for Friday, April 24 at 2 p.m. on the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
