SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Catholic women's lacrosse team brought the heat to Sassafras Multipurpose Field on Wednesday for a battle against Susquehanna. Five members of the squad scored three or more goals in the game, as the Cardinals captured the win over the River Hawks, 18-11.
Within a minute of the first whistle, the Cardinals found the back of the net with an unassisted goal from
Maddie McDevitt. They quickly extended their lead with a goal from
Maggie Traynor, the 23rd of her junior season.Â
The River Hawks tied it up soon after, getting on the board with a goal from Sloane Coddington followed by the equalizer from Kieran Spears nearly six minutes into the opening quarter. Determined to take the lead, Susquehanna added three more goals in the first to go up 5-2.
In response,
Henley Bredemann began her scoring prowess, netting her first goal of the game with less than three minutes remaining in the quarter.
Annie Galarza followed, cutting the deficit to one to close out the first.
Less than 20 seconds into quarter two, Bredemann evened the score at five with her second goal of the game. Makaela Larkin responded for the River Hawks, as they tried to maintain the lead, but Catholic began a crucial run, scoring five straight in less than five minutes.Â
McDevitt tied the score at six with her second goal of the game, followed by Bredemann's third that was assisted by
Peyton Wozniak, giving
 Catholic a lead that they would hold onto for the remainder of the game.
Lindsay Sawyer then scored her first of the game, and 15 seconds later McDevitt secured her hat trick to extend the Cardinals to a three goal advantage. Bredemann closed out the run with her fourth of the game, scoring off a feed from
Izzy Fiore.
Susquehanna added two more goals in the quarter, but Galarza capped the first half with an unassisted goal, and Catholic entered the break with a 11-8 lead.
Early in the third,
Reagan Quinn notched the first goal of her sophomore season, as the Cardinals looked to grow their lead. Sawyer followed with two goals that were split by Maggie McDermott of the River Hawks. Time ran out in the third and the Cardinals were up 14-9.
Catholic tallied four more in the final quarter, starting with
Katie Raymond's fourth goal of the season. The fourth period also saw back-to-back goals from Traynor, and a goal from Galarza as the two Cardinals secured their hat tricks. Susquehanna added two in the fourth, but were unable to regain their lead, and Catholic secured the victory, 18-11.
Bredemann was atop the leaderboard in points against the River Hawks, logging six points for her four goals and two assists. She remains a category leader this season in points and goals, with 45 points and 31 goals. This also marks her seventh game with three or more goals during her 2025-26 campaign.
Following Bredemann, four other Cardinals notched hat tricks on the day: McDevitt, Traynor, Sawyer, and Galarza. Fiore had three assists on the day, bringing her to second on the squad with 18 this season. She also scooped up four ground balls.
Defensively,
Sophia Callano had a standout day, logging two caused turnovers and three ground balls while McDevitt and
Maddie Rinker followed with two caused turnovers. In goal,
Alexandra Ragano earned the win, logging four saves.
Olivia Koch also saw 15 minutes of game action.Â
This is Catholic's 25th win over the River Hawks in series history, bringing them to 25-2. The Cardinals improved their overall record to 8-6, and Landmark record to 6-1.
Catholic will continue their conference road stint with a Saturday afternoon game in Williamsport, Pennsylvania against Lycoming. The Cardinals will take on the Warriors at 1 p.m. at UPMC Field at Keiper Stadium.
