WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic women's tennis team looked to pick up back-to-back victories for the first time in the spring season with a matchup against Goucher. The Cardinals set the tone with three victories in doubles play, leading to a 6-1 victory over the Gophers to record their third conference win of the year.
Meaghan Laniewski and
Ella Knox notched the first doubles victory with a 6-0 win in the number two spot to start things off for the Cardinals. Shortly after,
Mairead O'Hara and
Ava Niggemeier also came away with a convincing 6-0 win to secure the doubles point. The win for O'Hara was the 60th of her career which is the 10th most for a player in program history.
Shloka Tambat and
Annie Nemoy wrapped up the doubles sweep in the number one spot after falling behind early, coming back to win their set 6-4.
Niggemerier collected the first singles win for Catholic in the five slot, winning both of her sets dominantly, 6-0. Laniewski put the Cardinals one point away from capturing the victory when she won her two sets 6-1 and 6-0 at number four singles. Catholic locked up the win minutes later when Nemoy won at number two singles in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-0.
Ava Kaloustian was put into the singles lineup in the sixth spot and earned herself a win 6-2 and 6-1 and Tambat also collected a second win on the afternoon in number one singles, winning both well-played sets 6-4.
The Cardinals are once again at home for another Landmark contest on Saturday, March 28 for a match against Moravian. The match will start at 1 pm at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
