Traynor's Double Hat Trick Leads Cardinals to Commanding Victory Over Moravian

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic women's lacrosse team opened up Landmark Conference play with a dominant victory over Moravian University on Saturday afternoon. Maggie Traynor had a stellar day, recording 11 points with a double hat trick to lead the Cardinals to a 20-4 victory.

Bailey Leatherman opened the scoring for the Greyhounds, scoring within the first minute of play. The Cardinals quickly tied it up when Izzy Fiore found the back of the net. From there, the Cardinals began their scoring run that would allow them to hold onto the lead for the duration of the game.

Henley Bredemann added a goal to put the Cardinals in the lead, scoring off an assist from Maggie Traynor who followed it up with her first goal of the game. With less than a minute on the clock, Allie Buonaccorsi netted her first career goal to put Catholic up 4-1.

Annie Galarza started the second quarter with another goal for the Cardinals, extending their lead over Moravian. Galarza scored off a feed from Traynor, who then assisted the next two goals. Ellie Verrill and Olivia Daniels also contributed goals in the quarter, Daniels notching the debut goal of her sophomore season. Moravian found a rhythm, tallying three of their own, but Catholic stayed ahead, leading 8-4 heading into the break.

The Cardinals dominated both offensively and defensively in the third quarter, doubling their score with eight more goals, and holding the Greyhounds to a scoreless quarter. Buonaccorsi started off the scoring less than a minute into the half, followed by back-to-back goals from Traynor to secure her first hat trick. Tori Wilsey and Fiore each snuck in a goal before Traynor went on another run.

Maggie Traynor closed out the third by securing a double hat trick, scoring three goals in less than five minutes to put the Cardinals up 16-4 heading into the final quarter of action.

Catholic added four more goals in the fourth quarter, starting with a goal from Charlotte Spaulding less than 30 seconds into the quarter, her first of the season. Fiore followed with her second goal of the game. Olivia Eikenberg and Peyton Wozniak each added goals to close out the game, Eikenberg's second of the season followed by Wozniak's first. The Cardinals officially locked in the 20-4 victory over the Greyhounds.

As a team, the Cardinals recorded 50 shots to Moravian's 12 and went nearly perfect in clear attempts.
12 Cardinals got on the board during the game, but Traynor led the team with 11 points, finishing with six goals and five assists to bring her to 14 goals and 20 points this season, the most on the Cardinals squad in both categories. Fiore also finished with a hat trick, as well as three ground balls and a draw control. Buonaccorsi, Sawyer, Eikenberg, and Galarza all finished with two points against the Greyhounds.

Catholic defense was perfect in the second half, holding the Greyhounds to scoreless third and fourth quarters. Alexandra Ragano earned the win in goal, but three keepers saw game action against Moravian. Olivia Koch saw 16 minutes, logging one save, and Jamie Handwerger played 15 minutes, recording two saves.

Wilsey had a solid game across the board, scoring a goal, recording a ground ball and caused turnover, and logging five draw controls. Buonaccorsi tallied four draw controls, while also notching two goals.
