HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Catholic women's tennis team closed out their spring break trip with a final match against Lake Forest on Friday morning. The Cardinals were unable to overcome the Foresters, falling in the meeting, 6-1.
Lake Forest set the tone early in the doubles matches, capturing wins across the board.
Mairead O'Hara and
Marcela Peña battled in the three spot, but fell 7-5 against their Forester opponents.
In singles,
Ella Knox and Peña both took their opponents to third-set tiebreaks. In the three spot, Knox fell 6-1 to Anya Mookencherry before defeating her in the second set 6-4, forcing a third set tiebreak. Knox fought hard, but fell to Mookencherry 10-6 in the tiebreak.
In the six spot, Peña mounted a major comeback against her opponent, Anika Kinnear. Peña fell in the first set 2-6 and won the second set, 6-4, sending the match to a third set. Peña then defeated Kinnear 10-5, securing a point for the Cardinals.
Catholic ultimately fell to Lake Forest, 6-1 as the Foresters took the win across the five remaining singles matches. Up next, the Cardinals will return home to face off against Stevens. The match is set for Friday, March 20 at 3 p.m.
