Catholic Falls in Nail-biter to Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Catholic women's basketball team took to the road for the last time during the regular season to take on Elizabethtown. After a hard-fought battle, the Cardinals fell to the Blue Jays 58 to 56.

The Blue Jays found the bucket first, quickly going up 6 to 0 on the Cardinals. McKenna Karlson stopped the streak with a jumper and helped put the Cardinals on the scoreboard. A three pointer from Lauren Kraft gave the Cardinals their only lead of the game halfway through the first quarter at 10 to 9.

The second quarter was balanced with just eight points apiece. Kraft made a pair of threes and Anna Scoblick ended the quarter with a jumper. The Cardinals went into the locker room trailing 24 to 27.

During the third quarter, Raquel Guidetti completed four makes from the charity stripe and added a made layup for a total of six points. Scoblick once again closed out the quarter with a made free throw. Heading into the fourth quarter, Catholic followed Elizabethtown 35 to 44.

The Cardinals battled in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Blue Jays 21 to 14. Karlson opened the fourth quarter with a jumper. Amelia Kennedy scored seven of her nine points in the fourth, getting the Cardinals back in the fight. Kennedy tied the game with a three with 34 seconds left on the clock. Elizabethtown's Kiley Wilhelm answered when she went to the foul line with eight seconds left and made both of her attempts. Catholic was unable to overtake Elizabethtown, despite their fourth quarter run and ultimately fell 58 to 56.

In today's matchup, Carly Catania and Guidetti both went 100 percent from the free throw line.

Three Cardinals reached double digits against the Blue Jays: Anna Scoblick (13), McKenna Karlson (10), and Raquel Guidetti (10). Scoblick also led her team with five steals.

The Cardinals now are 14-3 in conference play with the final regular season Landmark game on Saturday, February 21st. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. against Scranton at Franny Murray Court. With a win on Saturday, the Cardinals would clinch the second seed and receive a bye in the First Round of the Landmark Conference Tournament.
