CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Catholic men's tennis team started off the spring season on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Washington College. The Shoremen controlled the action from top to bottom and came away with a 7-0 victory over the Cardinals.
Flynn Hollinger and
Jake Hershey played a competitive set in the number three doubles spot but ultimately fell 6-4. Washington College had already locked up the doubles point by earning victories in both the number one and two positions to take a 1-0 lead.
Lorenzo Neri played in the number one singles spot for the Cardinals but fell in two sets to Maxi Synnestvedt by scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
Ian Arenas ended up going into a tiebreaker in his first set in number five singles after being tied at six, but dropped the tie breaker 7-1. He also had a competitive second set but ultimately lost 6-4.
Hollinger also had his opening set go to a tiebreaker in the number six singles slot against Demir Isiker but he dropped the tiebreaker 7-2. Like Arenas, it was a well played second set, but Hollinger also went on to lose the second set 6-4. The Shoremen collected victories in all the other singles matchups to finish off their victory.
The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday, February 22 when they take on Salisbury on the road. The match is set to start at 12 m at the SU Indoor and Outdoor Tennis Center.
