WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic men's basketball team looked to collect its 10th win in conference on Wednesday afternoon against Goucher. The Cardinals dominated from the tip, taking a 31 point lead into halftime and went on to defeat the Gophers 95-51 to complete a season sweep of Goucher.
The Cardinals lit it up from the floor in the first half, going 19-for-32 while shooting 59 percent, to take a 53-22 lead into halftime.
Brian Herbert led the offense in scoring over the half with 13 points while
Peter Gellene also put together a solid half with 10 points. Catholic was also hot from downtown throughout the half, knocking down six threes. On the other side of the court, Catholic held Goucher to just 33 percent from the field and also forced 13 turnovers from the Gophers to keep them in check to help build on the lead.
Catholic continued the strong run of play to begin the second half as Herbert connected from deep and
Charley Hepting made two layups to continue to extend the lead. The Cardinals also had a strong day from the charity stripe throughout the game, shooting 21-for-24 from the line including 12-for-13 in the second half. Goucher's offensive struggles continued in the second period as they shot just 36 percent which allowed Catholic from preventing any comeback.
