TOWSON, Md. — Catholic's senior forward
Brian Herbert was selected as the Landmark Athlete of the Week for his performances in two victories for the Cardinals this past week, it was announced today. It is the second time in Herbert's career that he has earned the honor, and he is the first Catholic player to receive the award this season.
Off the heels of becoming the 50th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points, Herbert averaged 22 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as the Cardinals collected victories over Moravian and Drew during the week. Herbert started off his week against Moravian with 22 points, while shooting 7-for-13 from the field, with a trio of threes and five rebounds in a 90-80 win. He followed up with another 22 point performance against Drew where he shot 60 percent from the field and a perfect 10-for-10 at the foul line with four rebounds, helping the Cardinals collect a 78-70 victory over the Rangers.
For the season, Herbert is averaging 18.1 points per game which is second-most on the team and tied for sixth in the Landmark this season. Herbert is also in the top 10 in the conference in both field goal and free throw percentage this season and after his performances he now sits at 1,052 career points, putting him at 44th on the program's all-time scoring list.Â
Catholic returns to the court on Wednesday, January 14 for a Landmark showdown against Susquehanna. Tipoff is set for 7 pm at
Franny Murray Court.
