WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic men's soccer team draws in the conference opener against Lycoming with a final score of 1-1.
The Cardinals came out of the gate hot, controlling play in their offensive half. Within the first 14 minutes, Catholic had a total of 5 shots and 2 corners.
In the 31st minute, the Warriors earned themselves a corner. After being inserted, the ball bounced around between the heads and feet of Catholic and Lycoming alike, until Xavier Dandridge found an opening to put the Warriors on the board.
During the second half, the Cardinals searched for a way to put themselves on the board. With time running down, the Cardinals found a way to score in the 80th minute. After battling in their offensive half,
Ben Zimmer found
Seth Michalak in the box. Moving around his defender, Michalak kicked the ball to the right side of the goal, crossing just out of reach for Jace Bennett to sink into the net.
Both teams were unable to score and break the 1-1 tie in the final minutes, giving both Catholic and Lycoming a draw in their first Landmark game of the season.
Catholic outshot Lycoming significantly, 27 to 2. Of those shots, 7 were on goal for Catholic and Lycoming collected just one.
Holden Woodings had the most shots for the Cardinals at 9, with 3 on goal. The second most shots came from
Carson Shamoo with 5, while
Francesco Mattucci collected a pair of shots. Zimmer and
Graham Leary also tallied a shot each.
